On January 2, 1949 Ladell Allen Bonner, age 54, committed suicide in this house by ingesting mercury cyanide. Her funeral was held a couple of days later in the house and her interment followed at Oakland Cemetery. Her mother then sealed off her room to preserve it as a memorial to her daughter.

Two men were found dead by a housekeeper on 7/14/2021 in a hotel room at the former Gianni Versace Murder Mansion.
One day away from exactly 24 years ago, Italian born fashion designer Gianni Versace was murdered here by Andrew Cunanan. Cunanan walked up to Versace and shot him twice in the back of the head as he was entering the property on 7/15/1997. Cunanan killed himself in a house boat 40 blocks away from the mansion.
The mansion was later sold and converted into a 10 bedroom luxury hotel.
Florida does not consider a prior death in the home, even when the cause of death is homicide or suicide, to be a material fact that must be disclosed. Additionally, No legal action shall be taken against an owner or his agent for failing to disclose.
