The Heavens Gate Mass Suicide Mansion in Rancho Santa Fe, CA

18241 Colina Norte Rancho Sante Fe, CA

This is the location where the mansion once stood, that the Heavens Gate Mass Suicide occurred. Here Marshall Applewhite and 38 of his followers were found dead on on March 26, 1997. They committed suicide to free their souls to board an alien space craft that was tailing behind the Hale-Bopp Comet as it took its 1997 pass across our skies.
They had killed themselves in shifts, one shift would overdose on vodka and phenobarbital, tying plastic bags over their heads for good measure, and the remaining shifts would clean up the mess, and then take their turn. The suicide shifts lasted for three days, and Applewhite, assured that his flock were all accounted for, was the last to go.
Media attention became so disruptive to the neighbors in this formerly quiet neighborhood that they bought the house for the ridiculously low price, bulldozed it to the ground, rebuilt from the ground up, and changed the name of their street from Colina Norte to Paseo Victoria.

The house in Villisca, IA where six members of the Moore family and two house guests were found bludgeoned in the residence. All eight victims, including six children, had severe head wounds from an axe. The Villisca axe murders occurred between the evening of June 9, 1912, and the early morning of June 10, 1912. A lengthy investigation yielded several suspects, one of whom was tried twice. The first trial ended in a hung jury and the second ended in an acquittal. The crime remains unsolved. The murders remain a mystery to this day, which may explain why so many people have reported various sightings and encounters with ghosts. Maybe the ghost can not rest until the murderer is identified. You can rent the haunted house for the night and investigate for yourselves. In 2014, a ghost hunter who rented the house ended up stabbing himself in the chest after spending the night here.
